Illness,
Health, and Safety Policies
Sick
Child Policy
Children
who have the following kinds of symptoms or illnesses may not attend child
care:
§
Fever
of 100 or higher
§
Flu
§
Diarrhea
§
Vomiting
§
Parasitic
infestation (Head Lice, Scabies, etc.)
§
Pink
eye
§
Skin
rash other than diaper rash or prickly heat. (To return the child to care, you
must provide a written statement from a doctor saying that the child does not
have a contagious illness.)
§
Chicken
pox (The child may return when all the blisters have dried and formed scabs,
usually about 6 days after the onset of the rash.)
§
Any
other contagious illness (tuberculosis, etc.)
If your
child has any of the above conditions, you are required to notify me as soon as
possible. A child will not be allowed to return to child care until he or she
has been symptom-free for a full 24 hours.
Please use your best judgment in deciding to bring a child who may be
ill to child care. Please consider the health of the other children and my
family. We reserve the right to refuse care if we feel your child is too ill to
attend child care. If you repeatedly try to bring an obviously ill child to
child care, it may be grounds for ending our contract.
You will
be notified if your child becomes ill during the day. We will continue to provide
care and will isolate your child from the other children. If your child becomes
too ill to stay in child care, you will be asked to pick up your child
immediately. If your child has been exposed to a contagious disease or
parasitic infection while in child care, you will be notified within 24 hours.
If your
child requires medication, you must sign a separate Consent for Medication Form
for each prescription or over-the-counter medication. The medicine must be in
its original container, labeled with your child’s name and the instructions for
administering it.
Immunizations
You are
required to keep your child current with all immunizations. Each time your
child is immunized, you are required to promptly give us an updated copy of
your child’s immunization record.
Parents will be called as soon as possible for all
emergencies. If your child is involved in a serious or life-threatening
emergency, we will call 911 and get immediate medical care, and then call you
as soon as possible. We will provide first aid for minor injuries such as
bumps, cuts or scrapes. You will be notified at pick up time of any minor
injuries.
If we need to evacuate due to a fire or any other
major emergency, we will meet at the Pineda residence. A map will be provided
to parents.
Program
Policies
Preventing the spread of illnesses and germs is something we
take very seriously. To help keep our facility clean, we ask that parents and
children leave their shoes at the door. Children will be taught to wash their
hands upon arriving, before and after eating, after using the bathroom, and
after playing outdoors. They will also be taught to brush their teeth after
meals. Toys will be cleaned and sanitized daily. Smoking is strictly prohibited
in our facility.
We serve
three nutritious meals each day:
§
Breakfast:
8:30 to 9:00 am
§
Lunch:
12:00 to 12:30 pm
§
Snack:
3:30 to 4:00 pm
We promote
good eating habits. A copy of our menu will be posted for parents to view.
Children are not allowed to bring junk food or treats from home. If your child
has an allergy to any food or beverage, you must notify us in writing.
For infants,
you must provide us with bottles, formula and baby food.
All the
children will lie down to take a nap or rest each day from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Each child will have their own cot. You may bring a
special blanket or other security item for naptime.
Infants will
be laid down to sleep on their backs in appropriate cribs, to reduce the chance
of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Learning to Use
the Toilet
We will help a
child learn to use the toilet once we agree that the child is physically ready.
It is important to follow a consistent routine both at home and in our program.
You will supply us with extra
clothing and training pants while we are helping your child to use the toilet.
Your child will not be allowed to wear cloth underwear until he or she has successfully
used the toilet for two weeks.
Birthday and
Holiday Celebrations
Children’s
birthdays are celebrated on the birthday or a day close to it. You may bring a
present for the celebrant if you wish to do so.
We will
have a holiday party to celebrate Christmas, New Years and Halloween. We will
also observe Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Thanksgiving.
You must
leave an extra set of clothing for your child that is appropriate for the
season, including a shirt, pants, underwear, and socks. If a child is being
toilet-trained, you will need to provide several sets of clothing each day. All
clothing must be labeled with your child’s name. Keep in mind that the
activities we have may soil/stain your child’s clothing.
For
infants, you must provide several changes of clothing, bibs, burp cloths,
disposable diapers and diaper ointment.
Bringing
toys from home can sometimes create conflict among children. For this reason,
children may not bring toys from home. We do not use toy weapons such as guns
or swords. Rough play such as wrestling is also discouraged.
We use
natural and logical consequences for misbehavior. This type of positive
discipline teaches children cause and effect, and responsibility for their
actions. For example, if your child uses crayons to write on the wall, they can
not use crayons for the rest of the day. We will also talk to your child to
help them understand why the behavior is wrong and how to prevent it from
happening. For children who
are too young to understand this type of behavior guidance, we use redirection.
We do encourage good behavior by always acknowledging it.
If your
child exhibits severe behavioral problems such as regular biting, hitting or
breaking toys, we will discuss this with you and ask for your cooperation in
solving the problem. We may terminate your contract
if behavior persists and becomes uncontrollable.
Policies
for Transporting Children
Persons
Authorized to Drop Off and Pick Up Your Child
We will
not release your child to anyone other than the people you have authorized to
pick up your child. You will need to provide me with a photocopy of each
person’s ID. If there is a court order (such
as a divorce settlement or restraining order) that limits the rights of one of
the child’s biological parents, you must provide a copy of that court
order.
To protect the health and
safety of the children in our care, you must comply with state law regarding appropriate car seats and
infant carriers. You may not transport children while under the influence of
drugs or alcohol. Failure to follow this policy will immediately terminate our
contract.
